The Lioness Saffron Project
Our activities have been designed to fit the needs of our participants, allowing them to complete them independently or as a group, at home or any comfortable environment, and at a time that suits them. We understand that equipment costs can be a barrier, which is why our activities require little to no costly equipment.
Join us at the Saffron Lioness Project and become a part of a community that supports and encourages each other to lead healthier and happier lives.
Welcome to the Saffron Lioness Project, where we aim to empower 120 economically disadvantaged women in the Saffron Lane area over a 3 year period. Our goal is to improve their mental health and overall wellbeing by teaching them easy, convenient, cost-effective, and rewarding ways to stay active.
Our project consists of 2 x 2 hour activity sessions at the Southfields Sports Centre every week, where 30-40 participants will learn how to use gym equipment, perform resistance exercises, engage in portable pilates, follow YouTube fitness routines, try Zumba and yoga, take part in walking group classes, and enjoy expressive dance sessions.
We also encourage our participants to complete a 30-minute weekly “Home Activity Challenge”, where they can practice the activities taught during the sessions, building a habit of exercising independently or as a group at home. Our participants can track their progress using the “My Fitness Pal” app on their smartphone, recording their calories burnt and heart rate during exercises.
Our tailored programme of activities has been developed in collaboration with our target audience, ensuring that they fit their needs and preferences. We want to make it easy and fun for our participants to stay active and improve their mental and physical health. Check out our project delivery plan for the full list of activities.
